PMFBY is a flagship crop insurance scheme launched by the Government of India to protect farmers from financial losses due to natural calamities, pests, and diseases. The scheme has been updated and strengthened in 2025 to provide more reliable support to farmers.
🎯 Objective of the Scheme
- To provide financial support to farmers in case of crop failure due to natural calamities, pests, or diseases.
- To stabilize farmer income and encourage them to adopt modern agricultural practices.
- To ensure food security, crop diversification, and increase competitiveness of agriculture sector.
🌱 Key Features of PMFBY
- Available to all farmers – including loanee (KCC holders) and non-loanee farmers.
- Very low premium for farmers – balance premium paid by Central and State Governments.
- Covers pre-sowing to post-harvest losses.
- Use of modern technology – drones, satellite imagery, mobile app for claim processing.
- Fully digitized system for transparency and faster settlement.

📦 Coverage Includes:
- Pre-sowing losses – due to prevented sowing/planting because of adverse weather.
- Standing crop losses – due to drought, flood, hailstorm, landslide, pests, etc.
- Post-harvest losses – damage due to unseasonal rain, hailstorm, etc. within 14 days of harvest.
- Localized calamities – like landslide, hailstorm in isolated areas.

🚨 Claim Process (In Case of Crop Loss)
- Inform within 72 hours of crop damage.
- Report can be filed to Taluka Agriculture Officer, Gram Sevak, or Mandal Officer.
- Can also report using the PMFBY mobile app with photos.
- A field survey and assessment will be conducted.
- Compensation will be transferred directly to your bank account.
