Scheme Information and Application Process

​The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) is a national mission for financial inclusion, ensuring that every citizen has access to basic banking facilities.

✅ Key Benefits of PMJDY

  • Zero Balance Account: There is no requirement to maintain any minimum balance.
  • Accident Insurance: Account holders receive ₹2 Lakh accidental insurance cover (for accounts opened after 28.08.2018).
  • Overdraft (OD) Facility: An Overdraft facility of up to ₹10,000 is available to eligible account holders after the account has been operated satisfactorily for 6 months.
  • RuPay Debit Card: A free RuPay Debit Card is provided for cash withdrawals and purchases.
  • Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT): Beneficiaries receive government subsidies and grants directly into this account.
  • Interest on Deposit: Interest is earned on the deposit amount in the account (currently 4% p.a.).

📝 Eligibility and Application Process

Eligibility Criteria:

  • ​The applicant must be a citizen of India.
  • ​The age must be 10 years or above.
  • ​The applicant should not already have a bank account (though an existing account can be converted to a Jan Dhan account).

Required Documents:

  • Aadhaar Card (if available).
  • PAN Card (if available; if not, Form 60 must be submitted).
  • ​Any other officially valid documents (e.g., Voter ID Card, MNREGA Job Card, or a letter issued by a Gazetted Officer with a photograph).

How to Apply:

  1. Visit a nearby Bank: Go to any public sector bank branch (e.g., SBI, Bank of Maharashtra) or contact a Bank Mitra/Business Correspondent (BC).
  2. Obtain the Form: Get the Jan Dhan Account Opening Form from the bank (the form is also available on the official PMJDY website).
  3. Fill the Form: Carefully fill in all the requested details, such as name, address, mobile number, nominee details, etc.
  4. Attach Documents: Attach photocopies of the necessary documents (Aadhaar, PAN, etc.) with the application form.
  5. Submit: Submit the completed form and documents to the bank official or Bank Mitra.
  6. Account Opening: Upon verification, your Basic Savings Bank Deposit Account (BSBDA) (the Jan Dhan account) will be opened, and you will be issued a RuPay Card.
