National Fibre Scheme 2026

National Fibre Scheme 2026

Under the Union Budget for 2026, the Government of India has placed a significant emphasis on both the Textile Sector and Digital Connectivity. The “National Fibre Scheme” is generally understood in two primary contexts:

1. National Fibre Scheme for Textiles

This scheme is designed to make India self-reliant in textile production and raw materials.

  • Objective: To increase the production of natural fibres (Silk, Wool, Jute) and Man-Made Fibres (MMF).
  • Benefits: Reducing dependency on imports and ensuring the availability of high-quality raw materials for domestic manufacturers.
  • Duration: This phase is planned to be implemented over a five-year period from 2026 to 2031.

2. BharatNet Phase-3 (Rural Internet Fibre Scheme)

Under the Digital India mission, this scheme is being aggressively implemented to provide high-speed broadband to rural areas.

  • Objective: To connect over 6 lakh villages across the country via an Optical Fibre Network.
  • Budget: An allocation of approximately ₹1.39 Lakh Crore has been designated for this massive expansion.
  • Key Benefits:
    • Affordable and high-speed internet access in remote rural areas.
    • Boost to E-learning (online education) and Telemedicine services.
    • Digital transformation of Gram Panchayats (Village Councils).
